West Hampstead Cumberland Mansions
This project was a term-time maintenance effort on a beautiful historic building, providing essential care and restoration while minimising disruption to its residents. A significant portion of the work involved replacing a large section of the roof covering with new insulated panels and a durable bitumen system.
Due to the scale of the project, an extensive amount of scaffolding was required. This was carefully installed in stages and removed as areas were completed to minimise disruption to the 32 flats within the building. Similar works carried out at the rear of the property were also extended to the front, ensuring a cohesive and thorough restoration. Throughout the project, we maintained clear communication with the residents, keeping them informed and ensuring their routines were impacted as little as possible.
The scope of works included redecorating over 220 windows and doors, completing more than 400 sqm of brick mortar pointing in a weather-struck style, and replacing over 600 damaged bricks to restore the building’s historic charm. Additional tasks included window replacements, extensive cleaning, rendering, decoration, installing new gate locks, and upgrading external cabling.
Originally, the project scope also included applying a Kemper roll floor covering around the rear of the property. However, due to the significant roof works and the height of the scaffolding, this element was deferred and will be completed the following year.
This extensive maintenance project preserved and enhanced the historic building’s character while ensuring minimal disruption to its residents and providing a consistent, high-quality finish to both the front and rear of the property.
